Collaboration Between Baidu and Lenovo Brings New AI Advancements

As part of its ongoing effort to find real-world uses for its AI model, Chinese search engine Baidu opens new tab, has teamed up with smartphone maker Lenovo to integrate its generative AI technology into Lenovo’s products. The relationship is like to the ones announced last month with Honor and Samsung, according to a representative from Beijing-based Baidu who said Reuters this week that the partnership involves Lenovo utilizing its Ernie large language model (LLM).There have been rumors that Apple is trying to incorporate generative AI models inside the iPhone, but Google is widely seen to be the market leader in artificial intelligence devices thanks to its Pixel phones and powerful cloud-based AI.

However, Chinese companies have cornered the market on artificial intelligence (AI) services, while U.S. corporations such as OpenAI (ChatGPT creator) and Google remain inaccessible in China. There are already more than 200 AI models available in the Chinese market. This includes models from Baidu’s main competitors, Tencent and Alibaba.Last November, Baidu CEO Robin Li stated that companies should now concentrate on creating useful applications. Not only that, but prominent Chinese phone manufacturers Vivo, Xiaomi, and Huawei are all secretly developing on-device AI models of their own. In addition to bolstering Baidu’s position in this space, the integration of its AI capabilities into cellphones might expose the business to massive amounts of data, allowing Baidu’s LLM to overtake competing AI systems in the United States.
