Codeium Introduces Cortex: A First-of-its-Kind Code Reasoning Engine Available to Developers Now

Kleiner Perkins-backed Codeium is unveiling a new code reasoning engine that increases retrieval recall by 200% over state-of-the-art embedding systems

Cortex supports large-scale reasoning for code generation, reviews, and knowledge transfer

Codeium is able to execute this more powerful approach 40x faster and 1000x cheaper than doing so with third-party APIs

Codeium, an AI-powered code acceleration toolkit, announced the launch of Cortex, an AI-powered reasoning engine that will give developers a more powerful engine to do more, not just another naive copilot. Cortex equips developers with the advanced tools needed to manage and solve complex coding problems more efficiently.

Reasoning is key to AI achieving human or superhuman-level intelligence. As the focus shifts from AI copilots to the next iteration of AI models, Cortex represents a significant leap forward. Instead of assisting with simple, isolated tasks like standard copilots, Cortex supports large-scale reasoning, making code generation, reviews, and knowledge transfer, and Codeium is able to execute this more powerful approach 40x faster and 1000x cheaper than doing so with third-party APIs.

Cortex is enabled by a trio of advancements:

  • Proprietary code LLMs: This mimics the familiar retrieval, planning, and execution workflow that developers use to approach tasks.
  • Scalable context handling: Tested on over 100M tokens of code without quality loss, Cortex can reason over vast amounts of context.
  • Lightning-fast processing: Distributed computing allows Cortex to run in seconds rather than hours, enabling real-time human-in-the-loop interactions.

These apply no matter the task, whether it’s writing code, refactoring code, reviewing code, explaining code, and so on, streamlining the process from hours to minutes, proving a fundamental breakthrough in reasoning for foundational models.

Customers familiar with Codeium will experience 2x the recall of relevant contextual information compared to Codeium’s past systems and 3x the recall of state-of-the art embedding + third party API systems.

“Individuals have not hit the limits of their potential. Cortex is a huge step forward in helping individual developers solve more complex problems faster, allowing them to approach challenges in a more powerful way,” said Varun Mohan, CEO of Codeium. “Our mission at Codeium has always been to push the boundaries of what’s possible in software development. With Cortex, we’re not just dreaming bigger, we’re delivering bigger.”

Since launching 18 months ago, Codeium has continued to build for its customers, with significant time savings and efficiency gains reported up to 25% percent. 44.6% of all newly committed code is generated and unedited from Codeium. Currently, Codeium serves 600,000 active users and over a thousand customers, such as Dell, Zillow, and Anduril.

The Cortex experience is available today and ready to use for all Enterprise SaaS customers, integrated into the backbone of Codeium’s existing products such as Autocomplete and Chat. In the near future, Cortex will be exposed in new products that will enable novel ways of building complex software with a human-in-the-loop.

Developers and organizations are invited to see firsthand its impact on AI-driven software development.

Rather than a theoretical improvement, Codeium has already demonstrated the value of this new reasoning engine in practice, integrating it into its widely used existing products as well as newly launched products such as Forge, an AI-powered code review assistant.

Cortex Gives Global Enterprises Autodiscovery for Cloud Infrastructure
New Cortex Resource Catalog accelerates innovation through collaboration, expanding on microservices discovery and scoring strengths

Cortex announced new innovations designed to give engineering teams the same levels of visibility into and control over cloud infrastructure that the platform has, since its inception, over microservices. The company’s industry-leading System of Record for Engineering, which has given engineers and SREs comprehensive microservices visibility and control, now provides a Resource Catalog that extends to the entire cloud environment, including S3 buckets, databases, caches, load balancers and data pipelines.

Latest Aithority Insights: Detecting, Addressing and Debunking the Hidden AI Biases

“We’ve now extended the platform to say, ‘Here’s all the infrastructure we have, here’s who owns it, here’s what they do, and here’s how they tie to the services,’” said Ganesh Datta, co-founder and CTO of Cortex. “We found that many customer infrastructure teams were already using the platform for tracking infrastructure migrations for microservices with Cortex scorecards, and that they wanted to expand that to include all of their assets. The platform now provides a central repository for all of that information.”

Cortex Resource Catalog

The new Cortex Resource Catalog enables customers to define their own resources in addition to those predefined by the platform. For example, customers wanting to represent a certain path within an S3 bucket as a first-class resource owned by a certain team, or who want to represent kafka topics as resources along with relationships to their consumer/producer microservices, can now do so using Cortex.

AI and ML News: AI: Continuing the Chase for Brain-Level Efficiency

“Giving developers observability of their infrastructure gives them much-needed contextual information that improves and speeds development of the applications and services they create,” said Paul Nashawaty, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “The ability to share this information across teams helps them stay aligned in their workflows and outcomes, and greatly benefits their organizations and their customers.”

Cortex’s fast-growing customer base, which includes Adobe, Brex, Grammarly, Palo Alto Networks and SoFi, has found great flexibility in the platform, enabling them to develop a multitude of creative new use cases. The ability to systematically add items that are not microservices to a catalog, track them by owner and apply scorecards to their performance has been the company’s most-requested capability in the last 12 months.

“These new capabilities provide significantly deeper visibility into what cloud resources are being used, by whom, and to what effect, than any single platform has had before,” said Cortex co-founder and CEO Anish Dhar. “These new levels of visibility and control give companies using Cortex greater ability to optimize a broader set of resources to enhance cross-functional collaboration and improve their own performance, which is especially important to engineering teams as they work to optimize resources to align with their business goals.”

CognitiveScale, the enterprise AI company that helps organizations win with intelligent, transparent, and trusted AI-powered digital systems, today announced the release of Cortex Fabric Version 6—a new, low code developer platform for automation, augmentation and transformation of knowledge work and digital experiences.

Recommended AI News: Fujitsu and Digital Commodity Exchange Enter Strategic Agreement to Accelerate Digital Transformation in Global Commodities Trading

Cortex 6 helps enterprises create trustworthy AI applications faster, more affordably, and with business outcomes delivered through KPIs based on insights from data, models and actions—all with minimal dependencies on underlying infrastructure. It is superior to existing solutions in that it uses data where it resides, avoiding cloud vendor lock-in and enabling developers to invoke any model developed by any Machine Learning platform with a focus on operationalization.

“Enterprises need to build trust into their AI-driven applications; it’s become essential in the market. The consequences of launching unethical or biased applications are prohibitive. At the same time, not making the best use of all the data and insights companies have to differentiate represents an incredible missed opportunity,” said Matt Sanchez, CTO, CognitiveScale.

The strength of Cortex 6 is that it provides application developers with a visual framework for implementing a new class of goal-driven, large scale AI applications, called Campaigns. With a focus on tracking and measuring business outcomes, Cortex 6 makes it simple to turn insights from big data into trusted outcomes. Using AI Mission Planner, a web-based developer tool, businesses can meet goals faster and achieve results easier with stronger capabilities around data sourcing and reduced friction points.

AI deployments can be time consuming and often require highly trained expertise. Cortex 6 provides a low-code framework, built to empower citizen developers to implement intelligent systems quickly and safely—within a matter of weeks. By scaling key resources, organizations can realize up to 70% cost reduction to build an AI solution, with rapid prototyping and accelerated deployment resulting in 3x faster value and 60% reduction in TCO for AI solutions.

Recommended AI News: Microsoft and NEC Expand Strategic Partnership to Boost Business Resiliency and Growth

Empowering in-house business users to build AI models saves significantly on support costs too, while ensuring superior outcomes with trust and transparency built into the AI lifecycle. That is why CognitiveScale partnered with argodesign to architect the Cortex UI.

Jared Ficklin, Chief Creative Technologist of argodesign says, “Cortex 6 enables an entire organization to participate in the deployment of AI, through interfaces that allow a broad set of roles to extend the work of the AI specialists. There are no design conventions here, so we worked closely with CognitiveScale and their customers to invent new types of low-code interfaces that guide an organization through best practices, to remove deployment bottlenecks and increase the value that AI solutions offer.”

Cortex 6 is also equipped with a cognitive data layer, powered by the Cortex Intelligent Profile-of-One and a set of Prediction Engines for identifying predictive, proactive, and personalized recommendations, or interventions. Users can now deliver smart interventions at the right time on the right channel, improving efficiencies and enhancing service by sending help where it’s truly needed most.

AI has become a competitive imperative for all enterprise companies – early adopters are set to share a $1T profit pool by 20303. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) are essential in the processing of massive volumes of data, while at the same time, trust and explainability have become critical to business leaders. According to Accenture’s 2018 Global Consumer Survey, lack of trust costs brands $2.5 trillion each year. As a result, Forrester predicts there will be more emphasis toward trusted data for AI.

The new Cortex 6 platform bridges these divides with an easy-to-use framework for enterprises to capitalize on data assets in a safe, transparent way.

Cortex 6 brings these additional enhancements to market:

  • The first low-code development platform for building AI applications with Zero-Trust Security as the foundation.
  • Goal-driven approach to solving intelligent automation use cases around business optimization and process automation.

“Cortex’s expertise across managing service architectures makes them a great fit for the GitLab Partner Program and enables us to jointly provide our customers with the right people, processes and platforms to enable them on their digital transformations.”

The Cortex platform features an automatic onboarding workflow that scans all potential microservices sources, discovers the microservices, maps metadata to them and infers critical information such as ownership and on-call rotations. The platform then generates a dashboard illustrating relevant metrics for each of more than 30 third-party tools, including GitLab, Datadog, Sonarqube, Snyk and PagerDuty. These integrations let engineers quickly access on-call rotations, latency dashboards, open vulnerabilities and more in one searchable dashboard. Each integration includes individual rules that enable users to drill down into specific metrics to grade the quality of their services via customizable “scorecards.” This enables development of production readiness checklists, security audits and evaluations of operation and development maturity.

“GitLab is excited to build a strategic relationship with Cortex,” said Nima Badiey, vice president of Alliances at GitLab. “Cortex’s expertise across managing service architectures makes them a great fit for the GitLab Partner Program and enables us to jointly provide our customers with the right people, processes and platforms to enable them on their digital transformations.”

Key capabilities of the platform include:

  • Microservices Quality Scorecards keep teams accountable for following best SRE/security/infra best practices by ‘gamifying’ service quality. Scorecards stack-rank services based on detailed performance metrics which motivates service owners to improve either performance, or decommission unused or unmanaged services.
  • Cortex Query Language (CQL), a domain-specific language, lets users write granular rules about health of deploys, SLOs, on-call rotations, security vulnerabilities, package versions and more, such as, “if the service is a production service, then there must be an on-call rotation and greater than 85% test coverage.” This enables engineering and SRE leaders to track and enforce service quality across the entire engineering organization. Engineers can set reliability standards across teams and types of services through direct integrations with a variety of tools.
  • Initiatives help drive progress towards meeting service metrics over a specified time period, letting users set goals and deadlines in a scorecard, making service quality a moving target for the team. Cortex messages service owners over Slack or email with their action items, which engineers can also see when they login to the Cortex dashboard. Initiatives align the team towards a common goal within a scorecard and help accelerate progress as a result.

“We’re excited to Integrate with GitLab and help reduce service complexity for their users,” Anish Dhar, CEO, Cortex. “Cortex enables GitLab users to start tracking quality across their microservices and build a single pane of glass for their architecture.”

As soon as Artificial Intelligence (AI) entered the scene, it became a hot topic. Businesses are widely embracing AI technologies such as Machine Learning, which simplifies the workflow for marketers in so many ways and offers a myriad of benefits. Many hotel chains, e-commerce companies, airlines, and brick-and-mortar stores didn’t think twice about whether to use AI to provide better service to their customers while increasing revenue.

Face recognition, voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Cortana, smart selfies, and augmented reality – the ways in which AI is used to offer innovative features and easy solutions for everyday tasks have revolutionized the digital world and shaped web and mobile markets. Amazon and Netflix are already leveraging Machine Learning to market to specific customers.

Handset manufacturers are actively upgrading their phones with dedicated AI processors. The latest Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and Apple iOS devices all contain special hardware designed to handle AI-based tasks more efficiently. This capability was in only 3% of phones in 2017 but will be in approximately 35% of all mobile devices sold next year.

What Does AI Mean for Mobile Marketing?

AI is rapidly conquering the mobile market and changing the way users interact with their phones. However, the ones who will benefit from AI technology the most are marketers.

Every Marketing Manager’s job is to identify customers’ needs and deliver a product that meets them. Mobile devices – mainly mobile phones – collect data on people’s behavior AI automates the analysis of that data, providing previously unavailable insights that give a better understanding of customers’ needs.

With the help of Machine Learning algorithms, marketing managers can precisely target their audiences and not scatter their efforts on irrelevant leads. Mobile apps themselves are incredibly important for businesses because they boost Engagement, Conversions, and Sales. And AI tools make promotions easier and more effective compared to old-fashioned methods where everything had to be done manually such as launching Marketing Campaigns and sending emails.

Thanks to AI tools, marketers can offer users more personalized advertisements without frustrating them with irrelevant and intrusive banners that result in negative user experience and decreased customer loyalty.

Types of AI-Based Software for Mobile Marketers

In this article, we’ll look at AI tools that are widely used by mobile marketers. There are a lot of tasks AI can help with. In general, AI-powered tools fall into the following categories:

  • Analytics
  • Content management
  • Ad optimization
  • Customer service
  • Email marketing
  • Social media management

Analytics Tools

This category of tools, as the name implies, does all the analytical stuff. They process massive amounts of data and predict customers’ next actions based on past decisions and choices. This allows marketers to design tailor-made campaigns based on their customers’ current needs without dealing with terabytes of information manually.

Some analytics tools help marketers maintain a personal connection with customers and create a sensible outreach plan for different audiences. Other tools give marketers insights into competitors’ activities.

Interactive dashboards in these tools allow marketers to judge how well their campaigns are performing and see which methods are most successful.

There are also platforms that provide social marketing insights and data-driven recommendations. They allow marketers to track users’ responses to social media posts and suggest what to post and when. One of these platforms is SensAI, which works on popular platforms like Instagram and Twitter. Sensai allows marketers to design better messaging for social media.

Content Management

These tools are all about grammar and spelling. AI-powered grammar tools can spare marketers from embarrassment. Usually, such tools have multi-platform support,

allowing them to make suggestions content in emails, on social media, and in-text editors. Thanks to Machine Learning, they can provide accurate suggestions based on the context.

A perfect example of such a tool is Grammarly. This app helps users write better thanks to its sophisticated grammar and contextual spelling checkers. In addition, Grammarly provides short explanations for every correction and checks punctuation.

Ad Optimization Tools

One of the greatest features of ad optimization tools is their ability to manage all ad campaign data in one place. That’s in addition to their ability to build customized workflows and provide Machine Learning recommendations across platforms.

However, the main reason for the popularity of ad optimization tools is that they allow marketing managers to track how much money is spent on ad campaigns.

Another type of ad optimization tool automates the creation of targeted ads. These tools use AI to generate relevant ideas for new content. SEO tools also can check whether similar content already exists on the web to avoid plagiarism

For example, the Scoop.it app helps professionals manage all content they publish for different clients in one centralized application. This Content Management feature also allows marketers to immediately publish posts to different online channels, while an integrated AI engine provides a constant stream of ideas for new campaigns.

Customer Service Tools

AI-powered customer service tools take care of all communications with customers with the help of Intelligent Chatbots. Chatbots greet visitors of websites or social media pages and encourage them to take some action. This way, audiences won’t just take a look at the content and leave but will stay to learn more about the product or service you’re promoting.

Customer service tools provide lots of templates for different business needs, and AI helps them build up all sorts of chat scenarios based on customer needs.

The name of one of these helpers is DialogFlow. It’s offered by the same company that created Assistant, a virtual buddy for Android, iOS, and Windows smartphones. The company behind Dialogflow is well versed in human/computer interaction technologies. It uses Machine Learning to learn from visitors and offer personalized dialogs in response to their inquiries.

Email Marketing Tools

These tools are like magic wands for managing overloaded email inboxes. Machine Learning apps help to automate and control Email Campaigns so that inboxes don’t pile up with unanswered messages. Tools that deal with emails can identify the most important contacts and send them targeted follow-ups. They also help marketers personalize messages for different groups of customers.

As AI-powered tools continuously adapt and learn from customer responses, they gain an understanding of individual audience members and can provide one-on-one interactions. eSputnik.com is a great example of an email management tool. It uses twelve different AI models, including models to personalize recommendations, build segments based on personas, optimize the send time for emails, and generate content. eSputnik undertakes the most part of the marketing tasks and automates such processes as starts of marketing campaigns and mailouts.

Social Media Management Tools

AI-powered tools that specialize in Social Media Management provide insights into how brands or products are performing across the most popular social media platforms. Machine Learning algorithms can predict customers’ needs by analyzing their social media habits. According to these observations, AI can suggest the most viable marketing strategies and assist in creating ad campaigns. Another feature of social media management tools lets marketers monitor requests, reposts, and likes across platforms.

For instance, Cortex makes recommendations to marketing teams based on customers’ social media behavior. This application can build a social publishing calendar to which specific hashtags and keywords can be added. Cortex can also provide information regarding a competitor’s social media efforts.

Wrapping Up

As you can see, AI-powered tools can simplify and speed up the work of the marketing department. AI transforms a massive amount of data into useful insights and helps to enhance marketing efforts. Furthermore, AI allows marketing specialists to bridge the gap between the business and the target audience. AI technologies have developed so much that customers might not even notice that they’re interacting with a computer. That’s how human-like and personalized AI can be.

Using Vyasa’s Proprietary Neural Concept Recognition Technology, Cortex Identifies Concepts And Their Relationships Across Disparate Data Sources – Often Called Dark Or Siloed Data – Without The Need For Complex Reformatting, Integration Or Warehousing Efforts

Vyasa Analytics, a provider of deep learning software and analytics for life sciences and healthcare organizations, announced the launch of Cortex, a secure, highly scalable software platform for collaborative knowledge discovery and data analytics. Cortex applies a range of artificial intelligence approaches (AI) to organizational data, empowering project teams to gain insights and drive better decision making.

Using Vyasa’s proprietary Neural Concept Recognition technology, Cortex identifies concepts and their relationships across disparate data sources – often called dark or siloed data – without the need for complex reformatting, integration or warehousing efforts. For life sciences, this includes information about therapeutics, genes, proteins, types of diseases and more. In healthcare, Cortex can help organizations create better diagnoses, reduce readmissions and side effects, understand symptoms, cut costs and increase efficiency.

Christopher Bouton

“Organizations generate and consume so much digital data now that it is impossible for knowledge workers to read through all the information relevant to decisions in their daily work,” said Christopher Bouton, Ph.D., founder and CEO, Vyasa. “Cortex can identify the patterns and correlations relevant to sets of concepts across disparate data types by recognizing and extracting this information directly from data sources. In the same way that it enables recognition of objects in images, deep learning revolutionizes how we can conduct analytics by making concept recognition in data something that the machine can do for us.”

MilliporeSigma, a global leader in life science, is working with Vyasa to incorporate deep learning analytics into how it collaborates with customers.

“Deep learning is a compelling area of research with vast opportunities to change the way we solve problems in life science,” said Udit Batra, CEO, MilliporeSigma. “Through our work with Vyasa, we are exploring how we can apply Cortex technology within our business.”

In 2016, the pharmaceutical industry spent some $157 billion on research and development. This figure is set to increase to over $180 billion by 2022. The healthcare analytics market was $8.69 billion by 2016 and is estimated to reach $33.38 billion by 2022. Cortex is positioned to capture hundreds of millions of dollars in these markets by allowing organizations to conduct analytics on data relevant to their research. Other analytics companies in the space experiencing rapid growth include Lattice.io (acquired by Apple for $200 million), BenevolentAI (valued at $1.7 billion) and Exscientia (recent deals with GSK for $43 million and Sanofi for $273 million).

Dr. Bouton earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Neurobiology from Johns Hopkins University and sold his first big data software company, Entagen, to Thompson Reuters in 2013. Living in India for four years as a boy, he developed a great respect for Vyasa – an important Hindu figure, storyteller and compiler of information – and believes that AI approaches will help us better compile and gain insights from our data systems.

Vyasa Analytics provides deep learning software and analytics for life sciences and healthcare organizations. Cortex is Vyasa’s secure, highly scalable software platform for collaborative knowledge discovery and data analytics. Using Vyasa’s proprietary Neural Concept Recognition technology, Cortex identifies trends and patterns across disparate data sources, empowering project teams to gain insights and drive better decision making.
